Key decisions:
1. Reach families through schoolsTeachers care that students sound like themselves, and school is where classmates can get involved.
2. Rhyming stories instead of 75 sentencesThe first version needed 75 recordings, too many for young kids. I wrote short rhyming stories, recorded by a narrator, so children could repeat after her instead of reading. Kids who struggle with reading could donate too.
3.Strip it down when the technology allowedWhen new voice technology brought it down to 5 sentences, the stories were no longer needed and the flow became much simpler.
